HUMAN SERVICES TRANSPORTATION PLAN FOR THE OKANOGAN REGION
OCOG maintains a Coordinated Public Transportation-Human Services Transportation Plan, or HSTP for short. The HSTP is concerned with rural mobility, especially the mobility of people who don’t drive due to age, income, or disability, and their ability to access the health and human services available to them. It will result in a list of strategies to preserve and improve upon the range of travel options Okanogan residents have today. These needs and strategies inform important funding decisions, attracting state and federal grants to public, tribal, non-profit, and private sector transportation programs that benefit rural mobility across Okanogan County.
We are midway through our four-year periodic update. We’re talking now with transportation and human services providers to understand the travel demands of their different client bases and the challenges they face in meeting those service demands. Next, we’ll look at strategies and innovative opportunities to address those challenges. The goal of these strategies is to preserve and, where possible, enhance the travel options currently available.
We will bring a draft plan out for review and discussion in July, but you don’t need to wait until then to get involved. Follow along on our working OKANOGAN-HSTP site as we flesh out big issues and start exploring strategic opportunities to include in the draft plan. Share your insights. Help us make a solid case for supporting health and human services transportation projects in this region.
